Graduated in Law from the University of Barcelona, he won the State Attorney examination in 1974. In 1984 he applied for leave of absence and went on to provide services on the Barcelona Stock Exchange, where he held the position of Legal Advisor. In 1989, when the Stock Exchange became a company, he was appointed Secretary of the Board of Directors and maintained his professional activity as a practicing Lawyer.

In 1994 he left the Barcelona Stock Exchange, concentrating on practicing Law, permanently advising “la Caixa”, of which he was appointed Vice Secretary of the Board of Directors in 1995 and Secretary of the Board of Directors in 2003, being appointed Deputy Director in 2004 and Executive Director in 2005.

Secretary  of  the  Board  of  Directors,  not  a  member  of  CaixaBank  since  May  2009.  He  is Vice Chairman and Vice Secretary of the Board of Trustees of Fundación Bancaria Caixa d’Estalvis i Pensions de Barcelona “la Caixa” and First Vice-Chairman of Criteria Caixa

He was General Secretary of CaixaBank from July 2011 to May 2014. He has also been Secretary of  the  Board  of  Directors,  in  addition  to  others,  of  La  Maquinista  Terrestre  y  Marítima, SA; Intelhorce; Hilaturas  Gossipyum;  Abertis  Infraestructuras,  SA;  Inmobiliaria  Colonial,  SA; and Sociedad General de Aguas de Barcelona, SA.
